Political Cartoon: 9/28/08

    The republican politicians in the House of Representatives are trying to conceal the fact that the world economy is egressing in into a rescission. This political cartoon demonstrates a building called World Economy, burning to the ground. Theoretically, there isn’t a building called the World Economy, it only symbolizes the world’s economy, and how it is decreasing in its efficiency. This building also displays the House of Republicans saying, “What? You want to call the fire department? Aren’t we being a little hasty?” This comment depicts that although the world economy is rapidly diminishing, the republicans are still refusing outside help. They think that outside help is a last resort. Obviously they don’t the massive issue they are in at the moment. Do to the House of Republicans refusing help from the outside, the people all across the world are the victims, as they suffer from this rapid downfall, from the world economy.

Reflection: Applying the Essential Question to the Political Cartoons

After doing my six political cartoons, I realized how much they apply to the essential question, How does an individual affect change in society? How does society affect change in the individual?  Separately, each political cartoon shows these questions in a various number of ways. Collectively, they all show political candidates, who have changed the society in many different ways.  For example, in my first political cartoon, McCain has picked Palin as his Vice President, which changed the way many people thought of him.  They either thought his choice was good and they voted for him, or they thought he made a terrible decision and they went for Obama.   My second political cartoon shows Palin’s home, letting out smoke which causes global warming.  This political cartoon shows that before Palin was nominated, she didn’t really care about the environment, but after she was nominated to be VP, the society affected her and pressured her into changing her beliefs.   In my third Political cartoon, the presidential candidates are trying to effect “change” on the society just by talk.  The Fourth political cartoon is similar because McCain and Palin are also trying to effect change in the society by feeding them lie after lie, hoping to change the viewpoints of many people.  The fifth political cartoon shows that the government is planning to change the society by stealing and scamming from the US public.   Lastly, because the World Economy has fallen, the Republicans, in ‘charge’ of its fall, are accused of changing the society for the worst.   

All of the political cartoons resemble the essential question in one specific way.  Not only do the political cartoons show this, but so does everyday day life.  Everyday the society pressures an individual to change, and there are a few occasions when an individual affects change on a society.  The Future president will effect change on a society a great number of ways, hopefully for the better.
